From the Vicar -

This week marks my first anniversary in the parish.  Many thanks to God for his blessings and not least you, the parishioners, and your warm welcome, acceptance and reception of my ministry.

The Funeral Service for the late James Thomas Hogg will be held in
St. John's Church tomorrow, Monday, at 1pm.  Parishioners may remember Mr. Hogg and his late wife, Edith.

Five Edenhope parishioners hope to visit us for the weekend 9th-10th August.  The plan is to have:
    (a) a bring-and-share tea in the Vicarage on Saturday 9th, 6pm,
    (b) a BBQ after the 10am service at 12 noon on the 10th.
All our parishioners are welcome to come to either or both.  Please indicate on the card in the narthex if you would like to come, and perhaps indicate what you will be bringing.

When Bishop Hale visited the parish in April, he met with the Vestry after the service, and, among other matters, encouraged us to develop a "Ministry Action Plan", along the lines that he is recommending to all parishes in the Eastern region.  He offered to us, at his expense, the consultancy services of Rika Mason, of "Oakseed Minstries".  Rika is a Baptist lady from Mt Evelyn, and she has been a consultant to a number of Anglican parishes doing this "M.A.P." process.  She met with the Vestry a few weeks ago, and recommended that we have a small steering committee to start the procedure.  I have appointed that committee -- Peter BowteIl, Sue Kendall, Sandra Lennox, and Roger Maddison -- and we have met separately with Rika.  Our first "step" will be an "audit" of the parish:  our property, our ministries, our finances, the "demographics" of our congregation, and other indicators of our parish's "health" .  You will be hearing more of this in the near future.

Communion Ministers, I would be happy if you would "move in" and stand beside myself and the Lay Reader, behind the altar, at the commencement of the Thanksgiving Prayer.

Would those who would like Bible Reading Fellowship notes for September - December please let me know by mid-August so I can order them.

The "Strategic Directions 2009-2011 for the Eastern Region" will be launched by Bishop Hale at a Dinner on Tuesday, 26th August, 7pm for 7.30pm, at the Golden Sands Reception Centre, 399 Blackburn Rd, Burwood East. $40 per head (3 course meal, soft drinks, table wines). Please let me know by Sunday 10th August, if you are interested in coming.

Don't forget - all parishioners are welcome at any time to come to Morning Prayer in the chapel, 9am to 9:20am, Monday to Thursday, and to Evening Prayer, Saturday 5pm to 5:20pm.
